There are moments when life quietly rearranges our hands.
Not because we have stopped caring.
Not because caring was wrong.
But because God is teaching us that not every burden is ours
to carry, and not every kindness is ours to insist upon.
We spend much of our lives learning how to give.
We learn generosity.
We learn compassion.
We learn to notice the weary, to sit with the lonely, to offer a hand before
anyone asks.
These are beautiful lessons.
But somewhere along the journey, God begins teaching a
different one.
He teaches us how to walk.
Not every invitation is an invitation to carry.
Not every opportunity to help is an opportunity to step in.
Not every open door belongs to us.
Sometimes wisdom is not found in doing less.
It is found in discerning where our footsteps belong.
Scripture is full of people who walked when they wanted to
stay and stayed when they wanted to run.
Abraham left a familiar land.
Moses turned aside at a burning bush before he ever stood before Pharaoh.
Philip left a thriving ministry because the Spirit sent him to a desert road
where only one traveller was waiting.
God has never measured faithfulness merely by how much we
do.
He measures it by whether we are walking where He is
leading.
There is a quiet freedom that comes when we realise we do
not have to respond to every need, solve every problem, or carry every concern
we notice.
Some journeys are assignments.
Others are interruptions.
Discernment is learning the difference.
The temptation after disappointment is to become smaller.
To care less.
To protect ourselves from ever feeling misunderstood again.
But that is not God's invitation.
He is not asking us to love less.
He is teaching us to love with wisdom.
To let compassion be guided by obedience rather than
impulse.
To remember that even Jesus sometimes walked away from
crowds that still wanted Him.
Not because He lacked compassion.
Because He knew where His Father was leading Him next.
Perhaps maturity is not measured by how many people we help.
Perhaps it is measured by how closely our footsteps follow
God.
The world often celebrates availability.
Heaven celebrates obedience.
And those are not always the same thing.
The Nugget
Growth is not learning to care less. It is learning to
walk so closely with God that even your kindness follows His direction.
