I once looked back on a decision and wondered how I could have missed what now seemed so obvious.
The signs were there.
The outcome almost inevitable.
From where I stood today, the answer appeared embarrassingly
clear.
But then another thought interrupted the criticism.
It is easy to judge yesterday with today's eyesight.
The truth is, we can only see as much as we can see.
Life rarely hands us complete maps. More often, it gives us
enough light for the next few steps and asks us to trust the journey beyond
them. We make decisions with the knowledge we have, the experiences we carry,
and the perspective available to us in that moment.
Sometimes we get it right.
Sometimes we do not.
Neither changes the fact that we were acting from the limits
of what we could genuinely see.
There is a quiet kindness in learning to forgive yourself
for that.
Not because every decision was wise.
Not because every mistake was unavoidable.
But because self-condemnation has never improved yesterday.
It only weakens tomorrow.
Forgiveness, however, is not permission to become
comfortable with mediocrity.
It is not an invitation to stop learning, to stop growing,
or to excuse patterns that deserve to be confronted.
To forgive yourself is not to lower the standard.
It is to release the weight that keeps you from reaching it.
Growth begins the moment we allow today's understanding to
become tomorrow's wisdom instead of yesterday's prison.
There is a difference between carrying a lesson and carrying
a burden.
One makes you wiser.
The other only makes you tired.
Perhaps that is why life keeps unfolding one discovery at a
time.
Not to shame us for what we did not know.
But to prepare us for what we could not yet see.
Nugget:
Do not punish yesterday's version of yourself for not
possessing today's perspective. Honour the lesson, forgive the learner, and
keep becoming.
