When last did you genuinely ask someone how they were feeling?
I have been doing that lately, and I am discovering
something troubling. Many people are exhausted. Not merely tired. Drained.
Mentally stretched. Running on reserves they can barely explain.
Life has been hard on many. Yet every morning they still get
up. They still show up. They still push forward. They still answer messages
with a smile and tell us they are fine.
But smiles can be screens.
Yours may be one. Mine may be one too.
Behind the laughter, the productivity, and the carefully
curated responses, many people are carrying questions they cannot answer and
burdens they cannot easily put down.
That is why we must be careful with one another.
Do not break others to feel better about yourself. Do not
drown others to prove your own strength. Real strength is often found in
gentleness. In making room for another person's struggle while carrying your
own. In choosing kindness when life has not been particularly kind to you.
Our own pain does not excuse us from seeing others.
Our unanswered questions do not release us from the
responsibility of being light, life, and goodness to those around us.
Because sometimes the person in front of you is fighting a
battle you cannot see, and your kindness may be one of the few soft places they
encounter that day.
