The professional and the Personal

I have brooded on this for a while and have tried to wrap my head around what separates the professional from the personal - do you know?

Okay! Let us start from the simple fact that everywhere the professional is mentioned or used, it is in the realms of survival. Yes survival, because it is usually associated with what we do, that we get paid for because we are recognized as been proficient or having certain skills that reflect expertise. That means that the professional is just a term given to us for what we can do.

What is the catch, well, my discourse is about the workplace actually and why we must begin to find our persons in the work we do. Being professionals leaves us to focus on the strict sense of the work, many times, it strips us of the individuality that can make all the difference. There is always some set processes or norms that we must adhere to and truly we should, yet when we restrict our delivery within the constraints of professionalism, we do not only reduce the work to some mechanical stuff but also present our product or service short.

Aha!!! Someone is disagreeing - I agree with you and totally too. This is pure bunkum; yet think of it, until you bring you into that professional - it is just some code of ethics. It is fine to stay in the maze of the rule, yet the innovative mind and that which is driven by service will find that each time they soak themselves into that work, the result is different. For the role and work transcends what I do to become - "we are in this together." When you allow yourself to get infused into the arena, a commitment not to the boss alone but to the team grows and we grow together.

The truth is this, every toxic work environment arose from a strictly professional work ethos. So why not do a mix of the professional and the personal. Allow yourself. Give everything. It is not even for the pay - it is not because the boss appreciates. No! No! No! It is because when you express yourself in work, you are living fully; and when you live fully, all your faculties are refreshed. Love what you do, even if your dream is higher than what you do now. Just allow yourself to be expressed in that profession and your burden will be light.

Nugget: The professional and the personal is one and the same person - You make all the difference.
