If I have a million dollars and a cent is taken from it, I am no more a million-dollar man. Just that cent makes me a 'thousandner'. On the flip side, if I need a million dollars to reach or achieve a goal and someone comes offering a cent; the well-intentioned act of the giver will be seen but as just a drop of water where an ocean will suffice. Same one cent, yet each with a different version of their worth.
A similar background is seen in the famed story of a half glass of water seen from the perspective of being half-filled or half empty. It is the reason why in a changing world, experience loses its value and what we unlearn daily makes the difference between what we envisioned and where we eventually reach. This attitude produces the insights that tip the scale in our favour in most of our life challenges - many of them being only a reflection of our bias and belief system.
Speaking of reflections, I remember a much younger me traveling with my parents on several hot sunny days and each time, ahead of us was this pool of water that seem to disappear each time we got close enough. It was both intriguing and confusing: how come, I could clearly mark where the pool of water stood on the road but on getting there, it seemed to have either moved ahead or simply vanished. Well, my good parents did their best to make me understand that it was a reflection on a polished surface that my angle of view was forming as a pool, science completed that story for me - it was explained as a MIRAGE. Yet, one truth stuck in that episode; the way we interpret or understand others is akin to the one we get in the mirage case here. The emanating pool of water is not a reality but it is our reality. Yes, many of the occasions we are so pensive, pained and scared stiff for do not reflect the world around or ahead of us. They are but a product of us - a slant that supports the Chinese saying of us seeing things "the way we are and not the way they are."
So what vision do you behold in front of you? How hopeless does it present itself and you? What does it tell you of what your life has become or will be and remains? Did you know that the big picture blurs every imagination? If only we can see through the mist that our world and the noise that our perception and perspective represent? Perhaps, we will consider that most if not all of our pains are buoyed in illusions which we ourselves magnify? Yes, none of our worries are exactly as we post them. Indeed, we simply use our words/actions to describe them as best as fitting and as with any model, a fitting description can sometimes misrepresent the truth about the BlackBox. When the big picture fills the room, every other picture becomes insignificant - this was the story of biblical Joseph, it was the story and staying power of Joshua and Caleb when they could have reported just like the other spies.
Do not take the bait! Or haven't you notice that when downloading a large file or an app, after the initial forever, the 1hr remaining just suddenly turns to just 2 minutes more. It is so with life, your little matters - it is the sum total of them all that makes for the plenty that will avail. Your little matters; whether it is in-surmounting that onerous challenge, just staying steady with that little on a consistent basis is enough to turn "that great mountain" to a plain.
Nugget: Why despair, when every correctly put effort nibs that mountain of its currency. Stop! God is not done with you yet; He is mindful of YOU.
The write up is so on point. It is just what I needed. Weldone sir!
ReplyDelete#Word. My take home (none of our worries are exactly as we post them).
ReplyDeleteThanks for enlighten us.
Thanks so Much for the timely thought. I like the heavy download files analogy. It is so apt of how the things we worry about may not be the reality we ascribe to them. I will ruminate over this to internalize the import and essence embedded therein.
ReplyDeletePoetic ! Apt !! Spot on Analogies!!!
ReplyDeleteWell timed thanks for sharing
When the big picture fills the room, every other picture becomes insignificant. So apt!! This is so insight. Thanks a lot. Its important to focus on the big picture.. even if things are not looking it..it will make sense eventually. We are not distracted by those tiny things! We move!!
ReplyDelete*Insightful.
DeleteBeautiful and insightful piece. It shows, why we focus and keep our gaze on the big picture, we also shouldn't undermine the little, daily step by step journey cos though they may seem insignificant, they are an integral part of the entire journey....
ReplyDeleteJust like the cent analogy, little drops makes the ocean.
Also the half filled glass analogy I'd apt. How you see it and react to it is all but a matter of perception. It may not be absolutely right or wrong, hopeless or hopeful; it all depend on the angle from which you chose to see it.
Thanks for the master piece sir
Thank you.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful write up
ReplyDeleteGreat thoughts. Nice piece.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant and spot on bro. Talking about big picture vs the immediate perception, I call it one piece of the entire puzzle ... doesn't really make sense until its all laid out at the end.
ReplyDeleteInteresting perspective. Great read
