The Right Track

If you ever got to a dead end while driving, you wouldn’t think to park your car there as you just arrived at a dead end. You would have to turn around and keep moving. It’s never too late to make a U-turn and get on the right track. In as much as you might not be sure the direction to head, take a moment, stop. Ask for directions; ask for help to guide along the way.

So recently someone who is a top manager at the office who works an average of 18 hours a day saw me investing in myself (studying) after work hours and made some interesting comments. That the office is a market place and most people seemed to get caught up with the routines and slaving away or browsing away forgetting some key fundamentals. The wisdom and value of making the right decision and balancing one’s time. Investing in oneself, paying the price now and enjoying the benefits later. You might be working and slaving away, but take out a bit of time every day to invest in yourself. It could be a mini-course; it could be studying while on vacation, it could be a degree or an added skill. Plan now for the future. Know your worth. Add value. When you see the results you would be glad you did.

It is difficult to put a man down who has a knowledge of wealth. Even if he got sacked, He already knows how to add value. A job looks for that kind of person. There’s a difference between looking for a job and a job looking for you. Get up. Yes YOU! Keep moving. See that goal. Go through the process. Plan for it. It might not seem feasible at first but with time the jigsaws get clearer. Don’t just invest but also put what is being learnt to work.

I was amazed at how this person was sharing his experience of spending a lot just to take a course. Now in some cases investing can start with what is available. The internet has a wealth of information, free courses, not to expensive courses, evening classes, mentoring and learning from people who had the opportunities to better themselves. Planning is a great way to start. He was well aware of the hard work he was putting in, but knew asides that it wasn’t for nothing. You know, most times we are too busy either playing away or slaving away and after 10 years of long service forget there’s an outside world and a constantly growing economy. Sometimes all we need is just 5 minutes to take a long hard look at your CV and ask ourselves some questions. Am I growing, is there movement or it’s just the number of years spent that’s changing in my Curriculum Vitae. It is not too late to get on the right track.
